Personal statement

In the long term, the most effective development experiences are truly learner-centred. They focus on meeting the learner’s needs to experience, reflect, understand and apply, and not on the facilitator’s need to be the focus of attention at centre-stage.

Making it easy to learn

Background

Debbie has worked as a management consultant specialising in management and leadership development for over 15 years, initially with Coopers & Lybrand and, since 1998, as an independent consultant. Prior to this she was a senior manager in the public sector, running a large London teaching hospital.

She is asked to design and deliver innovative leadership and management development programmes around skills development and behavioural change to help organisations fulfil the potential of their people and thus enhance business performance.

Debbie specialises in helping individuals and teams achieve excellent performance. A particular focus of her facilitation work is helping highly technically qualified people to develop the ‘soft’ skills and behaviours which they need to manage change and to develop, inspire and engage their teams. Debbie has also coached over 450 individuals in junior, middle and senior leadership roles including engineers, consultants, accountants, police officers, IT specialists, owner/directors of SMEs, opticians, rocket scientists, civil servants, retail specialists and call centre managers.
